THE SANDMAN’S ORCHESTRA is a duo made up of Pierre Laplace, a singer/songwriter from Lille, France, and his 16-year-old niece, Léonie Gabriel.
The story of the duo started in May 2010 when, after a family lunch, Léonie picked up a guitar and started singing a few covers. Everybody was astounded by the beauty of her voice, and Pierre offered her to work on some songs together. It was a case of instant chemistry : as soon as they started singing together, Pierre and Léonie realized that their voices blended beautifully and that they shared the same musical sensibility. Pierre then started writing songs for the duo, layering down tracks in his home studio. Some of the songs are sung as duets, others are sung by Léonie alone. The young singer also added vocal harmonies of her own which show a musical sense that is amazing considering her age. She also wrote the music of the song "Cradle of Light".
An 11-track album, “Silver Linings”, was released in June 2011. Recorded and produced by Pierre in his home-studio, the album is a collection of haunting atmospheric ballads with elements of folk songwriting and touches of jazz and electronica.
